WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR TIME?

Are you getting closer to God?

Do you seek him out?

Do you look forward to spending time with God?

Or do you spend time so much time on social media that hours go by and you don’t even realise?

There are three ways to spend your time:

  1. Moving towards God’s Path.
  2. Moving away from God’s Path.
  3. Sleeping.

Hence, when you are awake, the things you do with your time are either helping your Christian growth or detracting from it.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE?

This may come as a surprise but we all get 24 hours every new day.

Nobody gets more or less.

It is surprising how time-poor some people act.

How you use your time is your choice.

Some things are essential.

Work out how much time you spend each day (each 24 hour cycle) on the following:

  1. Sleep
  2. Chores (cleaning and tidying up after yourself and maybe your family also) (daily, weekly and monthly chores).
  3. Self care (showering etc).
  4. Employment (work you do to pay for your outgoings).

What is left is your free time each new day.

Mine is 12 hours.

That is a lot.How much time do you have?

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND SEEKING GOD?

“But seek first the kingdom of GOD and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

MATTHEW 6:3

In this time sector the following are included:

  1. Prayer.
  2. Bible Study in groups.
  3. Church attendance.
  4. Listening to Christian podcasts.
  5. Watching Christian channels oN You Tube preachers… provided they are the correct ones… this is the subject of a future post… pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit in what you listen to…
  6. Reading the Bible alone.
  7. Christian conventions, conferences… etc

Add up how much time you give to GOD, each day.

If events are weekly, divide by 7, if monthly, divide the time by 30.

Now you will have the total average time you spend with God each day.

Is it a figure to be proud of?

Some Christians only spend one hour per week simply attending church and consider themselves “practicing Christians” .

Only spending one hour per week at something is not going to make you an expert.

If you want to learn to play the piano, or have a beautiful garden – it needs more time commitment than one hour per week.

So why do so many relegate their relationship with God to such an afterthought?

You cannot truly get to know someone if you do not spend time with them.

Equally you cannot experience Christian growth if you don’t seek out the Lord.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR FREE TIME?

“Draw near to GOD and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

JAMES 4:8

Now it is important to be honest with yourself. How you spend your time may come as a surprise. here are some classic time-wasters:

  1. Screen time – Netflix, TV, social media
  2. Eating junk food
  3. Buying things you don’t need
  4. Gossiping
  5. Arguing
  6. Reading junk..
  7. Illicit activities – drugs etc
  8. Getting drunk
  9. Watching pornography
  10. Gaming

There are of course many more but add up your daily and weekly total.

Now compare how much time you give to GOD and how much time you waste.

If the balance is not right… changes need to be made.

Pray for GOD’s guidance in how to free yourself from time-wasting activities and spend more time glorifying GOD.

DEAR FATHER IN HEAVEN WE THANK YOU FOR EACH NEW DAY YOU GIFT US AND WE ASK THAT YOU SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE US IN GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND YOUR LOVE MORE DEARLY EACH AND EVERY DAY. IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY…AMEN
