Do you feel great? Happy? Refreshed? Or do you feel burdened… weary and sad? Not sure how to reboot yourself and your life? Time to detox your life.
It is time to detox your life every week. Choose which day… I choose Sunday because it is worship day, the day of rest and a new week lies ahead. It feels exciting to look forward with a fresh start after praising and worshiping God with others.
So go ahead and clear out the junk…
in your head…
in your life…
in your home…
on your laptop….
and in your heart.
Here’s what a weekly detox looks like.
WHOEVER CONCEALS THEIR SINS DOES NOT PROSPER, BUT THE ONE WHO CONFESSES AND RENOUNCES THEM FINDS MERCY.
PROVERBS 28:13
What junk are you carrying? Regret? Anger? Sadness? Loss? Envy? Hatred? Self-pity? Longing? Contempt? Dislike? Go through your week and list all the things that you did not like. Either in your head or on paper. The failed job interview… the argument with your sister… the missed bus… the broken vase… the idiot who cut you up… all the things that evinced negative emotions… let them go. How do you do that? Give them to God…
CAST ALL YOUR ANXIETY UPON HIM BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU.
1 PETER 5: 7
With prayer and a hope in your heart you can give everything that was bad in the last week to God. Offload the mess. Don’t take any bad feeling forward with you into next week. Do you think Jesus is ruminating about his execution? Is he concerned that people treated him badly? Just leave your resentments and disappointments behind and start again.
These are the people who should not be in your life.
The ones who mean you harm.
The ones who seek to undermine you.
The people who are not your friends.
Frenemies, enemies and those who disagree with everything you say and do. Who needs that much aggravation in their life?
So block them on social media.
Block them on your phone…
say no to invites…
and fill your life with the folks who should be there.
Pray for them as you let them go… and remember…
God does not want anyone to be a victim or a doormat.
God wants you to detox your life.
.FOR IF YOU FORGIVE OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THEY SIN AGAINST YOU, YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER WILL ALSO FORGIVE YOU. BUT IF YOU NOT FORGIVE OTHERS THEIR SINS, YOUR FATHER WILL NOT FORGIVE YOUR SINS.
MATTHEW 6: 14-15
Go through each room and discard everything that is broken, everything you no longer use and everything that someone else would appreciate. You may have too many mugs… give some away… even take them to the office to replace the chipped horrible ones. You may have too many clothes… you know what you have too much of. If you do this every week it is quick and easy. Put some worship music on and praise God as you go through stuff. If you have not done this for years then tackle one room, or even one drawer a week. Unless you live in a mansion the size of Buckingham Palace, your whole home will be refreshed in a matter of months. It is never too late to detox your life. Nor is it too big a task.
Each week go through your inboxes, get them to zero – answer, delete or file for later. Do the same with your desk, physical mail, downloads, apps you don’t use…. again you know what tech stuff you have which you no longer use. Get rid of the trail that is holding you back from embracing something knew. God has great things waiting for you but you can’t see them because you have too many emails to deal with. If you have not done this ever… it could take a long time. So break the task down and each week tackle one thing… your inbox page one for example.A weekly clearing ritual feels great. Thank God for everything in your life and let everything you don’t need go.
DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION WITH THANKSGIVING LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO GOD.
PHILIPPIANS 4: 6-7
Give to God everything you have done wrong. Everything you wish you had not done. Everything that makes you feel sad. Every sin. Every time you hurt someone. Every time you offended God. Everything you did that grieved the Holy Spirit. Pray. Repent. With a truly repentant heart seek God’s forgiveness. Offload all that sadness and regret and accept God’s forgiveness. It is gone when you pray and truly repent. Do not carry self condemnation into next week! Feel great, feel free, feel refreshed… when you truly start to detox your life.
THEN I ACKNOWLEDGED MY SIN TO YOU AND DID NOT COVER UP MY INIQUITY. I SAID, “I WILL CONFESS MY TRANSGRESSIONS TO THE LORD.” AND YOU FORGAVE THE GUILT OF MY SIN.
PSALM 32: 5
DEAR GOD OUR FATHER THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE GIVEN TO US AND HELP US TO BECOME MORE LIKE JESUS AND PLEASE FORGIVE US OUR SINS. PLEASE ACCEPT OUR TRUE REPENTANCE AND RELEASE US FROM PAIN AND ANXIETY BECAUSE WE HAVE LET YOU AND OURSELVES DOWN. IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY. AMEN.
