DO YOU HAVE A CATCHPHRASE?

Probably not… but it’s time to get one. When things go wrong how do you react? That’s life? Why do these things happen to me? Life’s not fair? I wish I had never been born? Why is life so hard for me and so easy for everyone else? If you feel despair and overwhelmed you need a catchphrase to get you through. As you will see…

EXAMPLE CATCHPHRASES

The Romans had many good ones… three should be enough to give you an idea…

1.”SEIZE THE DAY PUT NO TRUST IN THE MORROW”.

HORACE

2.”YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER YOUR MIND, NOT OUTSIDE EVENTS.  REALISE THIS, AND YOU WILL FIND STRENGTH”.

MARCUS AURELIUS

3.”AN UNEXAMINED LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING”.

SOCRATES

These examples are great but the biggest problem is they rely on self.

Your own efforts.

We are not superhuman.

We are frail creatures whom life can squash with its suffering and hardship.

We need God.

Obviously… we are his creation.

WHAT IS GOD THE FATHER’S CATCHPHRASE?

“BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD”.

PSALM 46:10

There is no greater support in life than that. What about Jesus?

WHAT IS JESUS’ CATCHPHRASE?

“NEVERTHELESS NOT MY WILL, BUT YOURS, BE DONE.”

LUKE 22:42

There is no greater love in life than that. Submit your will to God the Father. How do you put this into practice?

WHAT IS A GOOD CATCHPHRASE FOR A CHRISTIAN?

Something to remind you of God’s love.

Something to remind you of God’s power.

Something to remind you of God’s grace.

Something to help and inspire you and make you feel strong and supported. Here’s mine:

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?”

If you face a dilemma… turn to God.

How would Jesus cope?

The answer is easy…

  1. He prayed to the Father.
  2. He loved God with his whole heart.
  3. He loved his enemies as himself.
  4. He was humble.
  5. He was compassionate.

When you focus on Jesus… suddenly the spotlight is off yourself.

You realize that Jesus was not selfish.

He was love.

He did not react in fear but in faith, obedience and love.

See, it’s as easy as one, two, three.

DEAR FATHER IN HEAVEN WE PRAY YOU HELP US THROUGH LIFE’S STRUGGLES AND TEMPTATIONS, AND SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE AND SUPPORT US. IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY. AMEN.
